There are 126,109 people in Wyoming counting on the Social Security they’ve earned to be there when they need it. Seventy-eight percent of those beneficiaries in Wyoming are retired workers with 12% disabled workers, and 7.4% receiving spousal or survivor benefits. Laramie County has the state’s highest number of beneficiaries at 20,655, followed by Natrona (16,835), Park (8,820), and Sheridan (8,285) Counties.
The names of the first 10 Medicare drugs whose prices the federal government will negotiate directly with manufacturers were released Aug. 29. Popular but pricey blood thinners, diabetes medications, cancer treatments make historic list.

On October 2, AARP Wyoming formally congratulated the City of Laramie on becoming the 293rd community in the nation, and third in the State of Wyoming, to enroll in AARP’s network of Age Friendly Communities.
East High School students will bring their tech savvy to the Cheyenne Senior Center (2101 Thomes Ave.) to help the residents better understand how to use their mobile devices from 11 a.m. - noon on Saturday, October 27.
AARP Wyoming will host a pair of TeleTown Halls in which AARP Wyoming members will have the opportunity to get to know the Republican and Democratic nominees for governor and their stance on issues important to those age 50 and over.

After a busy primary election season that saw eight candidates for the nomination for both the Republican and Democratic nomination for governor, AARP Wyoming is developing the next steps in its Voter Engagement plan for the general election.
The Wyoming Retirement Security Task Force will meet on Oct. 19 in Laramie. This will be the fourth meeting of the Task Force and should see the group begin to develop recommendations to offer to the Wyoming Legislature’s Joint Subcommittee on Labor, Health, and Social Services.
