A new AARP survey, released in conjunction with Social Security’s 90th anniversary, confirms that Americans highly value Social Security, and even more so than five years ago. The vast majority of Americans – 95% of Republicans, 98% of Democrats, and 93% of Independents – consider Social Security vital to the financial security of all Americans, and 67% believe it is even more important for retirees than it was five years ago.

According to the FBI, con artists target older Americans to steal their banking information and identities. AARP Alabama is helping residents avoid becoming victims in many ways, including by hosting online tutorials, known as Fraud Watch Fridays, to provide details of common scams and how to steer clear of them. The sessions are being held at noon, on June 4 and 18, and on July 2, 16 and 30.

This week, AARP Alabama sent a letter to Governor Kay Ivey outlining vital services for Alabama's elderly population and how new federal funding can help meet those needs in our state. AARP AL - HCBS GOV LTR 041221.pdf
AARP Alabama recently sent the attached letter to Governor Kay Ivey to again state the Association's strong support for Medicaid expansion. Medicaid expansion is critically important to improving health and economic development in Alabama.
The AARP Alabama Driver Safety Program currently has an opening for the State Coordinator position. This is the highest volunteer position in the program for the state, and requires both a commitment to the policies and direction of the AARP Driver Safety Program, and the ability to use effective leadership skills to advance the program at the state level.
AARP Alabama is working with 2-1-1 Connects South Central Alabama, a program of HandsOn River Region, to find virtual (at-home) volunteers who will assist callers looking for transportation to COVID-19 vaccination sites and scheduling vaccinations. Volunteers may also be asked to help callers navigate resources for basic needs in their community.
