Have you dreamed of running a half-marathon but don't know how to start? You are not alone. We have heard from a lot of friends and family post-50 that there is a real desire to stay active, and even to kick it up a notch. What better way to start than the Colfax half-marathon? According to Running USA, an industry-funded research group, runners 50 years and older represent one of the fastest-growing age groups participating in marathons. As the total number of runners finishing marathons in the U.S. doubled to 518,000 in the 20 years ended in 2011, the number of finishers age 50 and older nearly tripled to 92,200, or about 18% of the total. Jean Nofles of Aurora has been selected by AARP to receive Colorado’s 2013 AARP Andrus Award for Community Service, the Association’s most prestigious and visible volunteer award, which symbolizes an individual’s power and ability to make a difference in the lives of others.

Colorado—AARP Foundation Tax-Aide, the nation’s largest free, volunteer-run tax preparation and assistance service, is seeking volunteers across the state to help Colorado taxpayers who are seeking assistance preparing and filing their 2013 tax returns.

Judy Collins grew up in Denver, where she began studying classical piano at an early age. In her teens, Collins turned to folk music and was one of the catalysts that sparked the socially-conscious spirit of the American folk-rock scene, scoring her first commercial hit in 1967 with "Both Sides Now." By the 1970s, Collins had a solid reputation as an a wide-ranging vocalist and had begun to stand out for her own compositions. Now in her seventies, Collins continues to record and perform her music worldwide.

Join AARP staff and other members for a night out at a Denver Nuggets game and perform an act of community service.
