AARP donated $35,000 to assist with efforts to rebuild following the American Canyon earthquake in August. California Executive Council member Larry Saxxon presented a contribution of $25,000 to Director Terence P. Mulligan with Napa Valley Community Foundation and $10,000 to Executive Director Elizabeth Hoffman with Rebuilding Together Solano County. The funds are being dedicated to long-term recovery assistance after a magnitude 6.0 earthquake hit Sonoma and Solano counties in Northern California on Sunday, August 24 – the largest earthquake to hit the area in 25 years.

This position is the top volunteer role in California. Patricia will guide our team of leadership volunteers to shape and execute our organization’s statewide priorities. The appointment was made by Carlos Brandenburg, AARP's West Region Volunteer Director.
Millions of Californians are adding a job skill to their “life résumé” – that of family caregiver. Often they are assisting their loved ones so they can stay at home, but AARP surveys say that they often don’t know where to turn for help. These family caregivers have a huge responsibility, but are often unaware of the critical resources and support available to them and how to cope with the challenges that come with being a caregiver.
John Paul Slawinski, 59, was arrested at his home in Palm Desert on July 29, and is being arraigned on Friday, August 1, at 1:30 p.m. at the Riverside Hall of Justice, Department 411, 4100 Main St, Riverside. Slawinski is charged with five felony counts of financial elder abuse and five counts of burglary for allegedly ripping off five senior citizens for more than $2 million through the sale and surrender of investment annuity products. Bail is set at $2,000,000.
