Election day next Tuesday, Nov, 6 is fast approaching. For Nebraskans age 50 plus, crucial issues such as the future of Social Security and Medicare, the sprialing cost of prescription drugs and support for 200,000 unpaid family caregivers in our state are all on the line. As data breach incidents proliferate, a new AARP survey finds that an alarming number of Nebraska residents have failed to take basic precautions against identity fraud. In response, AARP Nebraska and the AARP Fraud Watch Network have launched a campaign to raise awareness of identity theft risks and educate consumers on how to enhance the safety of their personal information.

AARP announces two Nebraska winners for its 2018 AARP Community Challenge grant program to help communities make immediate improvements and jumpstart long-term progress to support residents of all ages. A total of $1.3 million will be distributed to fund 129 “quick action” projects across the country. Nearly 1,600 applications were received from non-profits and government entities for the program, now in its second year. Each of the projects, which must be completed by November 5, is designed to achieve one or more of the following outcomes:

Nearly 200,000 Nebraskans care for older parents, spouses, children and adults with disabilities, or other loved ones, helping them to live independently in their homes and communities, where they want to be.

AARP Nebraska’s team of Hastings volunteers is joining forces with Mary Lanning Healthcare to host a Care to Share mobility medical equipment drive on June 16. The drive will be held at Mary Lanning Healthcare, 715 North St. Joseph Avenue from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
