AARP has submitted testimony to the Connecticut General Assembly’s Public Health Committee in support of three pieces of legislation that would improve access to primary care (HB 6391); protect vulnerable residents from being exposed to influenza to prevent unnecessary hospitalizations (SB1128); and provide better care coordination for patients with chronic illnesses (SB 1068). Information about each of the bills and AARP’s position are highlighted below:

Did you know that each year, Medicare loses billions of dollars as a result of fraud, waste and abuse? If you’re like most Medicare beneficiaries, you’ve probably had questions about your Medicare statements, called Summary Notices, and have often wondered what all of those numbers and codes mean. Sometimes it’s difficult to tell whether you are being billed correctly for the services you’ve received. That’s why AARP has developed new tools to help you better understand your Medicare statements and to help save the program money by identifying and reporting fraud and abuse.

On March 12th, AARP provided testimony to the Human Services Committee of the Connecticut General Assembly, showing strong support for bills on the docket concerning Medicaid services, long term care, and social service.
AARP submitted the following testimony stating our position on several of the bills before the Committee on March 7th. AARP is a nonpartisan, nonprofit social welfare organization with a membership that helps people 50+ have independence, choice and control in ways that are beneficial and affordable to them and society as a whole. AARP is an advocate nationwide for the rights of people aged 50 and older. A substantial percentage of AARP’s members live on fixed or limited incomes. A major priority for AARP is to protect consumers from utility expenses that may endanger their health and financial security.
