Unwanted telemarketing calls at home almost stopped thanks to the state’s Do Not Call laws championed by AARP and bipartisan legislative leaders. Unfortunately, while many sales calls stopped, calls from third party energy suppliers did not. These companies, which are growing in prevalence, seemingly ignored the law in recent years, hassling New Jerseyans and interrupting many an evening meal. And even worse, these calls often painted confusing if not outright misleading claims about their services and the savings that may be provided to the customer if a switch was made.
Caregiving is a tough job. In fact, for many caregivers it’s a tough “second” job, as over 70% of New Jersey caregivers are also working. As a result, caregivers often face a long list of challenges that make their day-to-day job that much harder. These challenges range from having to be extremely creative when managing time in order to meet a number of competing demands, to juggling finances in order meet the financial commitment that comes along with caregiving, to dealing with the physical and mental stress that can come from giving your absolute all to the job 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Remember, there are no holidays for caregivers.

As part of its continuing efforts to ensure that all New Jersey residents have food to eat, AARP is working to help promote the programs and resources that are available to help them right now.
AARP member Suad A. (not pictured here) has been volunteering with AARP for many years because she supports the AARP mission to “help people turn their goals and dreams into real possibilities, strengthening communities in New Jersey and fighting for the issues that matter most to families.” But some fights are personal, she says.
Once a year, people who are already on Medicare have an opportunity to make changes in how they receive their benefits. Those on Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) can sign up for Part D coverage or move to a Medicare Advantage plan. They can also change from one Part D prescription drug plan to a different one. Those who already have a Medicare Advantage plan they can switch to a different plan.
