(Ridgeland, MS) – Mississippi ranks 48 th overall when it comes to meeting the long-term care needs of older residents and people with disabilities, and AARP warns much more must be done, at an accelerated pace, to meet changing demographic demands. Despite the ranking, Mississippi has seen growth in key areas. Those areas are:
AARP Mississippi is presenting a free Caregiving Webinar on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 7 p.m. You can participate in this live, interactive event from the comfort of your home or office. Participants will receive tips and resources on starting a caregiving conversation, forming a team, making a plan, finding support and caring for themselves as they continue to care for others.
Proposed ‘Voucher’ Plan Threatens Benefits of Mississippi Residents
AARP Foundation Tax-Aide offers free tax preparation help to anyone, especially if you’re 50 and older, and can’t afford a tax preparation service. AARP Foundation Tax-Aide understands that retirement or other life changes may mean your taxes are a little more complicated now. Last year, AARP Foundation Tax-Aide volunteers helped more than 19,440 people file their federal and state tax returns.
Volunteers are the face of AARP in the community. AARP Mississippi is honored to have so many talented and skilled individuals who have expressed an interest in giving back to their communities. We are preparing volunteers and equipping them with the tools they need to volunteer locally.
The 2017 legislative session has begun, and AARP Mississippi is at the State Capitol keeping an eye on things important to Mississippi’s 50-plus population.

Joyce Nelson of Moss Point has been selected by AARP, the nonprofit organization for people 50 and older, to receive the 2016 AARP Mississippi Andrus Award for Community Service -- the Association’s most prestigious and visible state volunteer award for community service.
AARP Mississippi will present a Take A Stand Debate Watch Party in Clarksdale, Mississippi, from 7:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at Stone Pony Pizza, 226 Delta Avenue. Refreshments will be provided. The event is free.
