Volunteers are needed to prepare federal and state of Georgia tax returns. Last year over 38,000 returns were processed at no charge at 119 sites in the state with 871 volunteers. This free service to consumers began 47 years ago with a small group of four people and has grown to help provide needed assistance especially for but not limited to the age 60+ population. Locations where the service is offered may be libraries, senior centers, recreational parks or colleges. All volunteers who will prepare tax returns will need to attend a five-day training program which will be held in early January. The tax preparation season will run from February 1 through April 15, 2016.

AARP announced this week the launch of its AARP TEK Academy, a free, easy-to-use online classroom designed to help 50-plus Americans get the most out of technology to connect with family and friends, explore employment opportunities, access health information, enjoy entertainment and more. Located at AARPTEK.org, the site can be accessed from a variety of devices, including smartphones, tablets, laptops or desktops and offers dozens of tutorials on a range of helpful topics, from social media to staying safe online.
