AARP is proud to sponsor the Smithsonian seven-city tour of the Congressional Gold Medal awarded to Japanese American World War II veterans. The Congressional Gold Medal was awarded in 2011 to Japanese American, or Nisei, World War II veterans in recognition of their extraordinary accomplishments.
During the 2013 legislative session, AARP Oregon achieved a number of its legislative priorities, including:
(Salem, Ore.)— The Retirement in Reach coalition (a broad group of organizations representing approximately 900,000 Oregonians) today attacked “Wall Street financial interests” that are fighting HB 3436B. In a press conference held at the Oregon State Capitol, the coalition called on the Oregon Legislature to pass the bill to create a task force to study ways to increase retirement savings for working Oregonians.

Medford, OR -- What makes a community livable? AARP Oregon conducted a survey to understand better the people 50+ living in Jackson and Josephine counties and to gauge their opinions on aspects of their community’s age friendliness, livability and capacity to help Southern Oregonians live independently as they age.
Curtis Hanson, a nine-year Instructor volunteer with AARP-Oregon Driver Safety, Trainer since 2005, and Oregon’s Chief Trainer since June 2010, is the 2012 ADS West-1 Region Volunteer of the Year.
PORTLAND - AARP Foundation together with the New York City Coalition Against Hunger’s Anti-Hunger and Opportunity Corps, will receive VISTA volunteers (VISTAs) to support AARP Foundation’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) outreach and application assistance projects for older adults in Oregon.
CLACKAMAS -- When it comes to balancing the Oregon budget, AARP members in the state have some ideas. According to a recent survey, AARP members think a combination of spending cuts and revenue increases are needed to adequately fund essential services of education, public safety and human services.
