RICHMOND—AARP Virginia is meeting virtually with federal lawmakers to urge more help for older Americans and their families as they face growing health and economic challenges due to the coronavirus crisis. Residents in nursing homes, those who are food-insecure, and people who have lost their jobs are particularly in need.

The war against Covid-19 progresses with serious attention given by many to social distancing and the use of face coverings. Sadly, there also are many who feel protecting their family, friends, neighbors, and me is too much of an effort. With many of us engaged in social distancing, though, the con-artists are cranking up their constant attack via email and telephone. Here are some of the scams and malicious attacks that surfaced in the past week.

COVID-19 has changed our daily routines. It is affecting the way we dine out, exercise, and shop. When it comes to grocery shopping, which is a necessity, what can we do to stay safe? Do I leave non-perishable items outside for 24-hours? Do I wipe down food containers and then wipe down the kitchen counter where I placed the bags? And what about produce? What is the safety protocol I need to follow when unpacking those items?
