As of November 1, 2025, millions of Americans—including many older adults—may not receive their monthly food benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) due to the ongoing federal government shutdown. LOS ANGELES – AARP California is proud to continue the Andrus Opportunity Award Scholarship, which honors the legacy of AARP founder Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus through. Each year, the Andrus Opportunity Award Scholarship will provide $5,000 in financial assistance to a graduating senior who demonstrates academic excellence, leadership, and a strong commitment to community service. The award is funded by a $50,000 grant, which will help fund the scholarships for the next ten years, ensuring lasting support for students.
Each session starts with a complimentary dinner and time to connect with fellow caregivers from 5:30-6:15, followed by a presentation provided by local specialists on the evenings topic from 6:15-7:30.
The Care for Caregivers series offers five weeks of workshops on different subjects important to those acting as caregivers to a loved one. The events always start with a congregate dinner at 5:30 p.m. with the workshop kicking off at 6:30 p.m.
