Thayra Hausheer has been selected by AARP Florida to receive the 2023 AARP Florida Andrus Award for Community Service, the Association’s most prestigious and visible state volunteer award for community service.

When AARP volunteer Ira Turner took the mound at Jackie Robinson Ballpark this summer to throw the ceremonial first pitch at a Daytona Tortugas minor league game, he was right at home. Why? Because he was being honored as the AARP Volunteer of the Week on the very same field he played collegiately – just the start of his incredible professional baseball career.
After retiring from his job in aviation, Ken Thomas, 69, volunteered to help at an AARP convention in Florida. “They liked what they saw in me, and I enjoyed what I saw in AARP,” he says.

AARP Florida is bolstering its advocacy efforts on everything from prescription drug prices to caregiving heading into 2022.
Each year, AARP celebrates a National Day of Service where staff and volunteers throughout the country commemorate those lost and the benevolence of those who helped on September 11 by engaging in volunteer projects throughout the day.
