After the Illinois General Assembly failed to pass a utility reform bill during the regular Spring legislative session, and as negotiations continue, AARP Illinois issued the following statement from State Director Bob Gallo.

Insufficient retirement income is one of many economic and health challenges detailed in “Disrupt Disparities,” a report from AARP Illinois that recommends specific legislative, policy and other changes to reduce these inequities.

On behalf of AARP Illinois’ 1.7 million members and the state’s 50-plus population, we stand in strong opposition to any additional public funding for the for-profit nursing home industry unless there are substantial accountability reforms from the industry and expansive improvements to the status quo of care for nursing home residents tied to such funds.
