Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) are residential living units on the same lot as a single-family or primary dwelling. AARP Iowa is working to expand access to this housing option by championing a statewide ADU law that would give all Iowans the right to build an ADU on their property, reducing unnecessary regulations and red tape.

March 17, 2017 – Des Moines ¬– Iowa’s first Disrupt Aging Innovation Challenge drew to a close this week as five finalists presented their business concepts to a panel of judges and audience evaluators. The finalists, who were chosen during the Celebrate Innovation! Week8 at Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC), competed in a “Shark Tank” style event on Thursday, March 16th at Edgewater, a WesleyLife senior living community in West Des Moines.

The state population is aging, and financial crimes against older people are a growing concern. Thirty-seven percent of fraud complaints filed with the Federal Trade Commission in 2015 came from consumers 60 and older.
