To Improve Your Fitness, Walk This Way

ST. LOUIS WALKATHON m

Step up to fitness with the L.A. Soul Steppers, a walking group sponsored by AARP in Los Angeles that meets on the second Tuesday of every month.

The next free walk will be at 6:30 a.m. on Oct. 13. The group is moving outdoors to Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area, 4100 S. La Cienega Blvd. Meet at the top of the hill by the parking lot.

AARP members who bring their membership cards will receive a walking group T-shirt. AARP in Los Angeles also will provide water and healthy snacks to all participants. A personal trainer will lead everyone in warming up.

L.A. Soul Steppers is part of AARP’s commitment to promoting the development of livable communities—safe, accessible and vibrant environments. The monthly walks encourage social participation and support the use of parks and open space.

“People need public places to gather,” said Nancy McPherson, AARP California state director. “Loneliness can be as debilitating as a chronic illness. Isolation can be overcome with accessible, affordable and fun social activities, such as taking a walk.”
