LaVerne Gilliam, from Shakopee, MN, has been selected to receive the 2020 AARP Minnesota Andrus Award for Community Service, the association’s most prestigious and visible state volunteer award for community service. AARP Minnesota selected Gilliam for her tireless volunteer work with multiple organizations in the community, including AARP, Second Harvest Heartland, the Metropolitan Area Agency on Aging, Maplewood Nature Center, Minnesota Wildlife Refuge, and Bike MN.
For four years, 1,000+ nominations, and 200 honorees, AARP Minnesota and Pollen’s 50 Over 50 has always been about celebrating hope, resilience, and the contributions of those over the age of 50 who work tirelessly to make Minnesota better for all of us. AARP Minnesota will celebrate 50 state trailblazers older than 50 on Thursday, Oct. 17, at the University of Minnesota’s McNamara Alumni Center, in Minneapolis.
This spring, AARP is again partnering with Pollen Midwest, an online community-building platform, to solicit nominations for the Minnesota 50 Over 50 list.
