AARP New Hampshire’s Advocacy Director delivered this testimony yesterday on SB 313, which creates the New Hampshire Granite Advantage program.

To recognize their integral work to support family caregivers in New Hampshire, AARP names Governor Chris Sununu, Senator Sharon Carson and Representative Janet Wall as 2017 Capitol Caregivers, joining a bipartisan group of nearly 100 elected officials from more than 30 states. These leaders have advanced policies to support New Hampshire’s family caregivers who help their parents, spouses and other loved ones live independently at home and in the community – where they want to be.

New Hampshire ranks #47 when it comes to offering services that help keep people in their homes and communities as they age. AARP warns more must be done – at an accelerated pace – to meet changing demographic demands. New Hampshire’s long-term care system needs serious overhaul in order to give people the care they want, in the setting of their choices, at a lesser price. Nearly all – 95% -- of New Hampshire residents say they want to age at home, and not a nursing home.
