The New Mexico Conference on Aging seeks nominations for its Aging and Community Service Awards to be given out during the 40 th Annual Conference on Aging, scheduled August 21 and 22, at the Isleta Hotel and Casino. The deadline for all nominations is June 1, 2018.
AARP New Mexico is once again sponsoring two free document shredding events, in Las Cruces and Santa Fe, as part of AARP’s Operation: Stop Scams, done in connection with Smart Money Week, April 21 st to April 28th.
Two of AARP New Mexico’s volunteers were recently honored for the lasting impact their work has had in benefiting New Mexico families. Jackie Cooper, of Santa Fe, and Jaretta Faust, of Carlsbad, were recently inducted into the AARP New Mexico Hall of Fame.
AARP New Mexico State Director Gene Varela and State President Jackie Cooper recently presented Albuquerque Mayor Richard J. Berry with a certificate formally enrolling the city into the AARP Network of Age-Friendly Communities. The presentation was made Nov. 21 at the Barelas Senior Center.
The city of Albuquerque Department of Senior Affairs and AARP New Mexico want to get your ideas about what makes a city “Age Friendly” at the Albuquerque Age-Friendly Solutions Forum being held Thursday, Sept. 28, at the Albuquerque Convention Center. The free event is from 8:30 a.m. to 2.15 p.m.

AARP New Mexico is conducting an Operation Stop Scams event, offering free document shredding, this Saturday, Sept. 9, at the Santa Fe Place Mall, 4250 Cerrillos Road, in Santa Fe, next to the old Sears building. The event is from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Participants are limited to two Xerox-type boxes or 50 pounds of materials.
AARP will once again be a sponsor of the 2017 Indian Market in Santa Fe bringing back its interactive booth with some fun new additions.
The Abetya family, of Santo Domingo, are the artists that provided the AARP sweepstakes prize for this year’s drawing at the 2017 Indian Market in Santa Fe starting Saturday, Aug. 19 th, and Sunday, Aug. 20 th The AARP booth will have a sweepstakes where attendees can enter for a chance to win one of the family’s creations, a serpentine necklace with a turquoise drop.*
AARP New Mexico is sponsoring a special play that looks at caregiving and aging: STILL IN THE GAME by Robert F. Benjamin, is an upbeat family drama about aging with grace, courage and humor, will be on stage in Santa Fe at Teatro Paraguas from Aug. 10-20, 2017.
