ALBANY, N.Y. AARP New York State Director Beth Finkel issued the following statement today in response to Governor Kathy Hochul’s state of emergency declaration and new state funds for food assistance:

“AARP New York applauds Governor Hochul for her decision to declare a state of emergency and provide an additional $65 million in new State funds for emergency food assistance that will reinforce New York’s network of vital food bank and pantry partners and provide about 40 million meals to hungry New Yorkers on top of previous recent funding commitments to ensure food access.

One in seven adults ages 50+ rely on SNAP in New York. For seniors living on fixed incomes, food assistance is a critical service to protect older Americans' health. AARP remains committed to supporting programs that millions of older Americans rely on, including SNAP.”
