A series of evening workshops across the state this summer will help New Yorkers build their financial strength and protect their assets.

Starting this month, AARP is hosting MoneySmarts workshops, with how-tos on maximizing retirement assets through Social Security, 401(k)s and IRAs. Homeowners will learn about refinancing, reverse mortgages, rehab loans and fighting deed theft.

The workshops are free and open to all.

The first one is Monday, June 17, in Buffalo. Six workshops are scheduled for Long Island; these will include free tickets to local theatrical and musical performances. The last of the season is Friday, Sept. 13. Workshops are also scheduled for Queens and Syracuse.

Registration is required. To sign up and see a full schedule, go to aarp.org/moneysmartsNY.
