AARP New York is proud to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 through October 15. This year, we are honoring the cultures and contributions of Hispanic and Latin Americans with various virtual events such as cooking classes, career tips, fitness boot camps, and storytelling from generations of Latin Americans.

This is just the tip of the iceberg that is the rich cultural tradition of the Hispanic community, and we look forward to celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with members, guests, family, and friends.

Registration is required for these free programs, and registrants will be sent further details upon submitting an RSVP. You do not have to be an AARP member to register. Members and guests can register for one or all of our programs. However, some of the virtual presentations are only available in English.

We hope to see you around this month!

Let's address the great financial divide - between those who have their jobs, maintained or increased savings, and have manageable debt; and those who do not, particularly in Latino communities. Join us for a conversation with an experienced Financial Advisor, Dominic Valdez, to provide solutions for debt management, building wealth, and information around investing.

*This conversation is intended to provide general guidance, not specific legal or financial advice. Individual circumstances may differ and should be taken into consideration before acting. Consult a professional for advice regarding your personal situation. Hopefully, the information we cover today will help you make informed decisions about your financial future.  Again, consult a professional for advice regarding your personal situation.

We are over two years into a global pandemic that saw devastating job loss and economic disparities, particularly among older workers - especially women - who have represented most service workers and more than 60% of the lost jobs. So let's talk about Women in the Workforce and age discrimination for those working past age 50! Join us for a conversation with Nancy Santiago, a seasoned professional with over two decades of experience in education, economic development, federal policy, and philanthropy. We provide tools and resources on how to leverage your skills and set yourself up for a successful career.

As the global pandemic affected every aspect of people's lives, it is important to understand how it impacted people's attitudes towards multigenerational living. Culture plays an important role in our attitudes around family, care, and living arrangements. What did we learn about each other during this epidemic? What did we learn about ourselves? Join us for a conversation with Daisy Paez, a retiree, activist, and mom, as we talk about what it means to #DisruptAging.

Caregiving can be challenging; With over 43 million Americans providing care for loved ones, let's address these challenges both during and after the pandemic. Join us as we talk to Karen Vega, a Clinical Case Manager at Dale Jones Burch Neighborhood Center. We will share helpful tips, circulate local resources, and discuss how to build a caregiver support network to aid us through these challenging times.

Our final podcast talk in the series deals with health. As society is gradually recovering from the communal slump of the pandemic, there is a focus on taking control and getting back in touch with our overall health. Join us as we talk to Maria Scarfo from Senior Services Vision Latina and identify ways to take small-but meaningful steps to improve overall health (both mental and physical) and develop good habits for the future.
