Shred to Thwart Thievery

Shred image 2

As part of Operation Stop Scams, AARP New York is sponsoring free shredding events across the state this spring.

More than 20,000 New Yorkers filed reports of identity theft with the Federal Trade Commission in 2017. Shredding documents with personal information can help deter such crimes.

Events are scheduled in dozens of cities, including Garden City and Deer Park, April 22; Freeport, April 24; Brentwood, April 29; and Huntington Station, May 6. Shredding trucks will visit libraries, banks and recreation centers for two to three hours at each site. The events are open to the public, and each person may bring up to three grocery bags of papers to shred.
