RALEIGH—AARP invites community organizations and local governments across North Carolina to apply for the 2020 AARP Community Challenge grant program, now through April 1, 2020. Grants fund “quick-action” projects that can range from several hundred dollars for small, short-term activities to several thousand or tens of thousands for larger projects. Now in its fourth year, the grant program is part of AARP’s nationwide work on livable communities.
RALEIGH -- With individual retirement savings being insufficient for millions of North Carolinians, in 2019, the General Assembly passed the Small Business Retirement Study -- a measure that will advise state lawmakers on the best way to establish retirement savings options that work best for small business owners and their employees.
Since caring for a seriously ill loved one is one of the biggest challenges we face, the North Carolina Institute of Medicine (NCIOM), in partnership with agencies and organizations that provide care and advocacy around issues of aging, palliative care, hospice care, and long-term supports and services, convened a Task Force on Serious Illness Care in 2019-20. The Task Force consisted of over 60 expert members, including health care providers, community members, advocacy representatives, and family caregivers. The Task Force on Serious Illness Care has developed a workable plan to improve the quality of living for individuals (and their caregivers) with serious illness. The final report of the Task Force will be issued this spring.
BURLINGTON -- For his work to find easier ways for workers to save more of what they earn for retirement, Representative Stephen Ross was presented with an AARP “Super Saver” award at a special presentation made at a monthly meeting of the Triad Retirement Living Association.
