According to World Health Organization estimates, 1 in 6 people over the age of 60 suffers from some type of abuse. More needs to be done in order to bring elder abuse into the spotlight, and that is why the United Nations will call upon all nations to refer to June 15 as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day [WEAAD].
AARP North Dakota sent out a questionnaire to gather information to help older people and those caring for them protect themselves from the coronavirus and help prevent it from spreading to others. This graphic summarizes the responses.
In North Dakota approximately 68,000 family caregivers provided an estimated 57 million hours of care – worth a staggering $980,000 – to their parents, spouses, partners, and other loved ones in 2017, according to state data available in the latest report of AARP’s Valuing the Invaluable series.
AARP is hosting a telephone town hall on Tuesday, Nov. 12, to help caregivers across the state learn to better balance their work and personal lives with their caregiving duties.
