A newly-released Politico-AARP poll shows Pennsylvania voters age 50 and over believe health care and protecting the future of Social Security will be the most important issues in determining how they cast ballots in next month’s mid-term elections.

Duquesne Light has filed a request with the Public Utility Commission (PUC) recently for a 16 percent increase in the rates it charges customers for the delivery of electricity. If approved as filed, the increase could raise a residential customer’s bill by more than 8 percent.

Philly Free Streets, a people-powered initiative of the City of Philadelphia, will block off several miles of vehicular traffic along Broad Street on August 11 th from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The car-free route spanning several miles from City Hall to Erie Avenue will create a connection between Center City and North Philadelphia where people can bike, walk or play to explore the neighborhoods. This event is free and open to the public.
