After two years of hard work, the amendments to the Elder and Dependent Adult Abuse Prevention Act (Bill 36-0099) passed unanimously today before the 36th Legislature. AARP VI testified in support of the amendments to the territory’s Elder and Dependent Adult Abuse Prevention Act (Bill 36-0099). This Bill was sponsored by Senator-at-Large Angel L. Bolques, Jr.
"Elder abuse is not an abstract problem - it is a harsh reality in our islands. Too often, it is hidden in silence, whether in the form of financial exploitation, physical harm, neglect, or psychological manipulation. Each case represents not just a crime, but a betrayal of trust and a violation of the fundamental right to live with dignity and safety," stated AARP State Director Troy De Chabert-Schuster.

More than 9 million older adults in the U.S. struggle with getting enough food.
Denver, CO — AARP Colorado commends the reintroduction of the Credit for Caring Act, legislation that would provide financial relief to eligible working family caregivers. The bill, sponsored by Senator Michael Bennet, offers up to a $5,000 nonrefundable federal tax credit to help offset caregiving expenses, addressing the significant personal and financial sacrifices caregivers make to support their loved ones. On average, family caregivers spend over $7,200 annually—26% of their income—on out-of-pocket expenses.

Albuquerque Isotopes baseball season begins later this month with opening night Friday, March 28, against the Sacramento River Cats. And AARP New Mexico plans to be part of the season in a couple of ways.
