Denise Fettig-Loftesnes of Bismarck is the recipient of the 2025 AARP Andrus Award for Community Service – AARP’s most prestigious volunteer award.
During the Community Celebrations in Fargo and Bismarck, several volunteers were recognized for their commitment to community and service.
As of November 1, 2025, millions of Americans—including many older North Dakotans—may not receive their monthly food benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) due to the ongoing federal government shutdown. This disruption affects individuals living on fixed incomes, many of whom rely on SNAP to afford groceries and maintain their health.
November is National Family Caregivers Month, a chance to recognize the contributions, commitment, and sacrifices made every day by the 140,091 caregivers in North Dakota alone.
The Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) stopped the biggest gas rate hike in Illinois history, cutting a proposed $314 million increase from Nicor Gas by almost 50 percent, on the heels of months of public outcry and advocacy by AARP Illinois, including 35,000 petitions signed by AARP members.
