As of November 1, 2025, millions of Americans—including many older adults—may not receive their monthly food benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) due to the ongoing federal government shutdown. This disruption affects individuals living on fixed incomes, many of whom rely on SNAP to afford groceries and maintain their health.

ALBANY, N.Y. – AARP New York State Director Beth Finkel issued the following statement today on the state Senate passing S.488 (Senator Nathalia Fernandez), which would require prescription drug manufacturers to notify the attorney general of arrangements between pharmaceutical companies resulting in the delay of the introduction of generic medications. The legislation has been introduced in the Assembly by Assemblymember Emily Gallagher (A.2289).
At 68, Steve Orso has built a new chapter of his life through service, connection, and community impact. A widower since 2021, Steve spent decades in Information Technology, specializing in Help Desk support, global network management, training, and compliance. After retiring in 2012, he sought meaningful ways to stay engaged—leading him to AARP Pennsylvania in 2023.
