AARP Rhode Island is raising awareness of the benefits of ADUs, making it easier to permit units and expanding the state's age-friendly, accessible, and affordable housing.
Tia Scigulinsky of Portsmouth has been selected to participate in AARP’s Volunteer Leadership Institute or VLI, a rigorous and innovative year-long training program designed to elevate highly skilled and motivated AARP volunteers to the next level of volunteer leadership. Tia is joined by 33 other exceptional AARP volunteers from across the country, who will meet both in person and virtually throughout the year to build their leadership strengths in one of three chosen “tracks” – advocacy, community outreach or external representation.
AARP Rhode Island expanded its "Community Suppers" outreach this month at the St. Elizabeth's Court assisted living complex in Providence. A partnership with Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island, the new monthly event encourages socialization and mobility as residents are invited to a meal accompanied by live music, conversation, activities and door prizes.
AARP Rhode Island Executive Council member Jorge Cardenas (left) has the privilege of presenting a check for $4,000 to support Sodexo Providence employees' Weekend Backpacker Program. A group of company volunteers provide students with take-home backpacks every Friday packed with food to feed a family over the weekend.
AARP Rhode Island mourns the passing and celebrates the life of 2008 Ethel Percy Andrus Award winner for Community Service, Virginia Tierney, who passed away Nov. 3 at the age of 98.
