RALEIGH - Recognizing the immediate and long-term challenges that those affected by Hurricane Florence still face, particularly vulnerable older adults, AARP members and AARP Foundation are donating $635,000 to various rebuilding as well as legal assistance efforts in North Carolina.

AARP Mississippi is happy to announce our Scholar Athlete of the Week every Friday this fall. We partnered with Super Talk Mississippi to seek nominations for outstanding students who excel in sports and academics. The response was overwhelming! Meet Anna Landrum, a senior at Northeast Jones High School. She was nominated by Lori Landrum.

Meet Anne Grayson Clanton, a senior at Lafayette High School. She was nominated by Jennifer Painter. “Anne has a 3.91 GPA and is ranked 19 out of 197 seniors while being a full-time band member since 6th grade and working a part-time job,” Painter said. "Anne is on the bowling team too. She also is a member of the National Honor Society, Anchor Club, Beta Club, Yearbook Staff, and Bowling Team. She is Treasurer of the Student Council. Anne also volunteers at the Oxford-Lafayette Humane Society, nursing homes in the Oxford area, and Race for the Cure.”

AARP chapter president, Larry Walton of Ocean Pines in Worcester, MD was recently inducted into the Maryland Senior Citizen's Hall of Fame 2018 and was one of five recipients to receive the accompanying GERI award.
