AARP Kansas attends Juneteenth celebrations in Wichita and Topeka
AARP Michigan is proud to announce the City of Detroit has officially joined the AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities. This significant milestone reflects the City's commitment to creating a more livable environment for residents of all ages, particularly its older adults. Detroit joins a growing movement of communities dedicated to enhancing the quality of life through thoughtful and inclusive urban planning.
Austin Mayor Steve Adler drew a smidgeon of laughter from a crowd of about 120 Central Texas AARP members when he told them that not everyone needs to give up their cars and ride city buses in HOV lanes. Rather, he said, just enough motorists should do so to speed up the lane he likes to drive.
AARP has been working at the local level to improve pedestrian safety, expand affordable housing and make neighborhoods more livable.
A new state law, signed by Gov. Phil Murphy (D) in March, defines accessory dwelling units as affordable housing. ADUs are built on the same lot as a single-family home and include in-law suites, garage apartments and backyard cottages.

This significant step is a testament to our state's commitment to helping our residents age gracefully and thrive in their communities. These designations are the result of a continuous and dedicated collaboration between Washington State’s Department of Health, the Department of Social and Health Services, and the Health Care Authority.
