AARP recognizes social isolation as a critical health issue for seniors. While staying at home and practicing social distancing to slow the spread of COVID, many seniors are finding themselves more isolated than ever before. That is why AARP North Carolina is focusing on some efforts being made to combat social isolation and break a "digital divide."

Life-long volunteer Delores Wilson saw the pandemic's challenges as an opportunity to serve others, and her efforts earned her a finalist spot in AARP's nationwide "Show Your Love Volunteer Contest."

Living in the COVID-19 pandemic, we are more reliant on our internet connections – we are working, learning, and even receiving health care from home. All require a strong internet connection. The reality is, though, that thousands of Minnesotans still don’t have access to reliable, high-speed broadband internet.
