The vast majority of Louisianans want to age at home, but that’s not always easy to do, especially for those who need help with tasks of daily living, such as transportation, bathing and preparing meals.

As rebuilding continues in the hurricane-battered Virgin Islands, the AARP state office is cautioning residents to beware of storm-chasing scammers posing as home-repair contractors.

Residents of central Nebraska can take advantage of a community transit program to catch low-cost rides to medical appointments or to run errands.

A new state law, which takes effect Nov. 1, aims to expand the number of places across the state that connect family caregivers with local resources. The Oklahoma Caregiver Support Act directs the state Department of Human Services to work with community groups to improve access to caregiver services in low, middle and high income areas. Schools and city and county facilities will provide information, counseling, training and in some cases vouchers to help caregivers.

AARP challenge grants are expected to help two Kentucky cities become more livable.

AARP advocates in Iowa say it’s high time their state joined dozens of others in helping family caregivers be prepared to provide medical care when a loved one comes home from a hospital stay.

From connecting family caregivers with local resources to sharing tips with consumers about local scams, AARP Indiana is working to improve the lives of residents 50-plus in Gary. AARP also is working with FAITH, a neighborhood revitalization group, to create a farmers market that will serve the downtown Emerson neighborhood.
