Social Security keeps about 42 percent of West Virginians age 65 and older out of poverty, according to a new study from the AARP Public Policy Institute.

This year, AARP Foundation is again providing free tax assistance and preparation for taxpayers with low to moderate income through the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program. AARP Foundation Tax-Aide, in its 45th year, is the nation’s largest free tax assistance and preparation service , giving special attention those 60 and older. You do not need to be a member of AARP or a retiree to use this free service.

Even though 2013 has come and gone, you can still get a tax break when you file your income tax return. How? By contributing to a Traditional IRA. If you’re self-employed, the same applies to your SEP-IRA or Keogh plan.
