In June AARP North Carolina rolled out Coffee and Conversation, a new series of informal but informative programs on relevant topics for AARP members and people 50+ in Charlotte. The feedback from those programs was fantastic and so we are pleased to present our August line up of programs, which continues our discussions on health and our community.

She thought of teaching or returning to work as a pharmacist – but memories of the baking class brought back fond childhood memories of afternoon tea and pastries.

Gov. Jay Nixon vetoed Senate Bill (SB) 240 yesterday! The legislation would let natural gas utilities raise rates repeatedly -without close oversight for five years - and rates would go up as much as $500 million! This legislation would have hurt consumers. AARP, along with other entities, fought hard to defeat this anti-consumer legislation.

Gov. Jay Nixon has until Friday of this week, July 12, 2013, to veto Senate Bill (SB) 240 which modifies ratemaking provisions for gas coporations. If the governor DOES NOT veto this legislation, gas utilities could raise rates repeatedly without close oversight for five years that could cost Missourians as much as $500 million!
