People of all ages, fitness levels, and backgrounds are welcome to these free, ongoing events. After a brief health discussion from a healthcare provider, participants will spend the rest of the time enjoying a healthy walk at their own pace. They are encouraged to ask health questions and socialize with others in a fun, relaxed setting.
AARP Virginia is proud to support the awards, which will be given to innovative programs and services that assist older adults to age in the community.
The walks kicked off last week as Cheyenne Mayor Patrick Collins joined the inaugural lap group. On the first Thursday of each month a short presentation or discussion takes place, on different aspects of healthy aging such as diet, nutrition, and mental wellness, and then the walk gets underway.
The 2024 AARP Community Challenge grant program is currently open and accepting applications through Wednesday, March 6, at 5:00 p.m. ET / 2:00 p.m. PT. The Community Challenge grant program is part of the nationwide AARP Livable Communities initiative, which helps cities, towns, villages and rural areas become great places to live for residents of all ages.
