COLUMBIA, Md. (Dec. 3, 2019) - AARP is welcoming Howard County as the latest member of the AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities. As the most recent jurisdiction to sign on to the network and complete an intensive two-year study and planning project, Howard County’s civic leaders will have access to global resources and information on age-friendly best practices, models of assessment and implementation, and the experiences of towns and cities around the world.The Age-Friendly network helps participating communities become great places for people of all ages by adopting features such as safe, walkable streets; better housing and transportation options; access to key services; and opportunities for residents to participate in civic and community activities.
In North Dakota approximately 68,000 family caregivers provided an estimated 57 million hours of care – worth a staggering $980,000 – to their parents, spouses, partners, and other loved ones in 2017, according to state data available in the latest report of AARP’s Valuing the Invaluable series.

AARP Mobile is helping our friends and neighbors fight Identity Theft by holding a free document shredding event this Saturday, November 16. The event will be held 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM at Via Health, Fitness and Enrichment Center located at 1717 Dauphin St in Mobile.
AARP Louisiana recenlty honored its 2019 Andrus Award recipients, Danny and Jeannette Albert, at a reception held at St. Dominic Church in New Orleans, LA. Attendees included family, friends, colleagues, and community members.
AARP CEO Jo Ann Jenkins opened an AARP sponsored outdoor fitness park at Mobile’s James Seals Jr. Park & Community Center, the thirteenth such park to open in the United States and the only one planned in Alabama.
As a part of a nationwide project, AARP Louisiana worked with the city of New Orleans local Parks and Recreation department to open an outdoor fitness park designed for people of all ages. Denise Bottcher, AARP Louisiana State Director; Larry Barabino, Jr., NORD CEO; and Teri Guerin, Chief of Staff for Councilwoman Cyndi Nguyen, welcomed community members to the new park during a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Tuesday, Oct. 29.
AARP Maryland has presented its 2019 J. Joseph Curran Jr. Lifetime Achievement Award for outstanding community service to Montgomery County advocate and intergenerational champion Austin Heyman.
OCTOBER 18, 2019 —AARP Executive Vice President Nancy LeaMond joined Washington County officials today to break ground on a new fitness park outside of the Washington County Commission on Aging in Hagerstown. The site at East Franklin and Willard Streets is the 11th of 53 AARP-sponsored outdoor fitness parks planned around the country to commemorate the organization’s 60th anniversary.
