AARP Maryland and Baltimore County Restoring Elder Safety Today (BC-REST) invite Baltimore County area residents to learn about preventing elder abuse and take time to shred unneeded documents for free during an event on Thursday, June 15. The shred will take place as part of the BC-REST World Elder Abuse Awareness Day Forum. Register for free for this event!

We want to take a moment to express our appreciation for all of the Virginia State Legislators for their support of AARP Virginia’s 2017 Legislative Priorities. These priorities include increasing retirement security, strengthening financial exploitation laws, supporting family caregivers, and protecting vulnerable long-term care recipients.

For decades, the public drinking water supply at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina was contaminated with hazardous chemicals. Countless Veterans were unknowingly exposed to these chemicals.

Age-Friendly Macon-Bibb is celebrating their milestone of continuous improvements as indicated by the AARP Network of Age-Friendly Communities. Their designation as the country's first Age-Friendly Community was approved in 2012 by the World Health Organization and AARP. This network serves as a catalyst to educate, encourage, promote and recognize improvements that make communities supportive for residents of all ages. The network provides U.S. cities, towns, and counties with the resources to become more Age-Friendly by tapping into national and global research, planning models, and best practices.

AARP Louisiana State Director Denise Bottcher has announced the appointment of Bobby G. Savoie as State President- the highest state level volunteer position within the nonprofit, nonpartisan organization. AARP Louisiana has nearly 500,000 members statewide.

While it’s still a work in progress, the broad outline of proposed health care reforms is coming into focus in Congress. The measure as currently drafted holds huge ramifications for all Americans, including here in North Carolina. Many of those ramifications come from proposals to change Medicaid from its current form into a block grant program.
