AARP is asking members to join the Utility Watchdog Team, which monitors proposed rate hikes and other utility issues, especially those that affect people 50 and older.

Members of the team contact the state Public Service Commission and other officials when rate hikes are on the table.

For instance, AARP is tracking the likely effect of proposed rate increases sought by Entergy Gulf States Louisiana and Entergy Louisiana for customers statewide and in New Orleans, which has a separate rate-granting process.

To become a member of the Utility Watchdog Team, contact AARP Louisiana spokeswoman Denise Bottcher at dbottcher@aarp.org.
