Lawmakers recognized for their work on behalf of seniors

AUSTIN, TX – AARP Texas today commended the City of Austin for acting expeditiously to protect vulnerable electric customers -- many of whom are elderly and on fixed incomes -- from having their electricity turned off during record-breaking summer temperatures.

Sylvester Turner of Houston and three other consumer groups in petitioning the Public Utility Commission (PUC) to adopt an emergency rule giving consumers new tools to avoid dangerous electricity disconnections this summer.
