Texans can enjoy a film from Spanish actress and director Iciar Bollain on Nov. 24 at a free screening sponsored by AARP Texas and the City of Austin.
Flores de Otro Mundo (Flowers From Another World) is about a group of vibrant young women who travel by bus to a remote village overwhelmingly populated by men. With practical intentions, the women dream of better lives, while the men ache with romantic yearnings.
The movie, which was first shown in the United States in 1999, may be particularly appealing to Hispanic audiences, but its English subtitles could make it enjoyable for others as well. The screening is at the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center at 600 River St. in Austin. Viewers are encouraged to arrive at 9:15 a.m. A complimentary lunch will be served after the screening. Reservations are not required.
