FERRUM, Va. — A community-led park in Ferrum marked a major milestone on Friday, Sept. 12, with the grand opening of a new ADA-accessible trail, made possible through a $15,000 grant from AARP’s Community Challenge program.
Identity fraud and scams are a massive and growing problem, but there are things each of us can do to protect against identity fraud, even if our data has been exposed.
Northern Virginia is home to scores of active and involved AARP volunteers. This month I spoke with volunteer Suba Saty, who immigrated to the United States from India as a child and spent more than 30 years with the U.S. Air Force before retiring in 2014. We met on a weekday afternoon at Peet’s Coffee in Springfield, Virginia; our conversation has been edited for length.

During this session, we will share a framework to help you make plans to care for friends, family members, or loved ones. You will have the opportunity to connect with other family caregivers, exchange tips and advice, and learn about resources available to you and your loved ones.
AARP volunteers head to the Virginia General Assembly on Wednesday to ask lawmakers for legislation to provide a tax credit for family caregivers and to help workers save for retirement.
