On Thursday, May 10, 2018, the SW Roanoke AARP Chapter 4652 celebrated it 27th anniversary at the Westhampton Christian Church in Roanoke. The theme of the event was "Looking Back, Moving Forward." Speaking at the event was Ben Crawford of the Blacksburg Chapter. Guests included Blacksburg Chapter member, Carol Crawford as well as Roanoke Eureka Chapter #0514 members, Mary Terry, President, James Jordan, VP and Doris Durham. Old albums from the SW Roanoke Chapter were exhibited. A time of good food and fun was had by all.
Rita Ricks, spiritual and business coach, inspirational speaker, workshop facilitator, and award-winning entrepreneur and author, presented a program entitled "Speaking to Your Spirit" to members of Fredericksburg AARP Chapter 3396 on April 3, 2018.
AARP members are invited to a free screening of Molly’s Game, starring Jessica Chastain, Idris Elba and Kevin Costner.

AARP night at the ballpark in Salem, VA was and exciting event where members and the community were invited to a picnic as they watched the Salem Red Sox face the Lynchburg Hillcats. At the game AARP Virginia highlighted the important topic of Maintaining Brain Health as we age.
Mature Living, a program that features topics of interest to older adults did segment focusing on age discrimination in employment. Laurie McCann, Senior Attorney with AARP Foundation Litigation, talks about discrimination in employment and the impact of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act during the past 50 years.
