Volunteers and staff from Washington State headed to the other Washington (D.C.) on June 8 to advocate on behalf of AARP members and all older Americans on the crucial issues of Family Caregiving and Social Security. While meeting with members of Congress, these volunteers and staff made crucial asks:
It gives us great pleasure to announce the appointment of Patricia Pérez as California’s new State President and leader of our Executive Council. This position is the top volunteer role in California. Patricia will guide our team of leadership volunteers to shape and execute our organization’s statewide priorities. The appointment was made by Carlos Brandenburg, AARP's West Region Volunteer Director.
AARP has announced the appointment of Lacey resident Mike Tucker as the new volunteer AARP Washington State President. In his role, Tucker will direct the organization’s activities on behalf of more than 920,000 Washington State members, and provide leadership in long-range planning to help meet the needs of the state’s older adults and their families.
“Sometimes life doesn’t turn out the way you planned,” according to AARP volunteer Janice Moran. Janice was downsized out of job and was thinking about what to do next. She took matters into her own hands and enrolled in Visual Communications classes at a local community college. Quickly she was able put her new skills to use by designing flyers and brochures for AARP.
As the newest member of AARP’s California Executive Council, Patricia Pérez is quick to answer why she joined this team of leadership volunteers that shapes and executes the organization's statewide priorities: “Everything from employment opportunities, to encouraging outdoor activities, to philanthropy and volunteerism; so many things that have a personal value to me, is available through AARP.”
