Angela Cortez

ANGELA CORTEZ Angela Cortez joined AARP as Associate State Director, Communications in 2010. Angela is a Colorado native, who has an extensive background in journalism. She has been on the editorial boards of both The Denver Post, as an editorial and commentary writer, and The Desert Sun newspaper in Southern California, where she served as the editorial page editor. Angela specializes in legislative and judicial systems, as well as social services. She was one of a group of reporters awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 2000 for the breaking news coverage of the Columbine High School massacre. Additionally, Angela has worked on political campaigns and in public relations and marketing, providing outreach to diverse communities. At AARP Colorado, Angela garnered significant media for the state in the areas of utilities, the Protect Seniors campaign and Drive to End Hunger. She also acted as a regional liaison for the “Tell our Story” project, working with colleagues in seven other states, and in 2012, she served as Interim State Director in Idaho.
