As we celebrate National Volunteer Week, AARP Kentucky would like to recognize the many Kentuckians who go above and beyond the call of duty to make life better for others. Nearly a million Kentuckians volunteer their time and talents to strengthen their communities and improve the lives of others.
The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and AARP are teaming up to host Encore Entrepreneur month. Two local events are planned in Kentucky targeting individuals over the age of 50 who want to grow their own business
AARP Kentucky is pleased to fund a Bluegrass Alliance for Women (BAW) Lifelong Learning Scholarship presented to Vera Soules Mabson. A 1978 graduate of Allen County – Scottsville High School, Vera says she wasn’t ready when she first went to college. “I came from a family that didn’t have the opportunities that many families did. We were very poor. I came from a family of six and was raised by a single mother. We struggled a lot. So, I wasn’t prepared the first time I went to college.”
Families in Houston are going bankrupt due to unfair and out of control fees from payday and auto title lenders. But, there is something we can do about it. Houston can pass an ordinance to limit fees on short-term loans.
