AARP Connecticut commends U.S. Representative Elizabeth Esty (D-CT) for her leadership to make roads safer for all users by cosponsoring The Safe Streets Act, HR 2071, which was reintroduced in the House today. As a part of its efforts to make certain federal transportation infrastructure investments provide safe travel for all, AARP fully supports this important, bipartisan legislation and urges Congress to include it in its rewrite of the surface transportation bill.

Family caregivers are the unsung heroes of Connecticut’s long-term care system. They provide billions of dollars annually in unpaid care, allowing their loved ones to remain at home and out of costly institutions. AARP is proud to partner with CPTV to make possible this one-hour live Town Hall Meeting that will bring together a panel of experts and caregivers, studio audience members and viewers to discuss how to plan for and navigate the challenges of caregiving and how the State of Connecticut can best support its family caregivers and their vital work. AARP’s Public Policy Institute set out to help individuals answer those questions when they developed the new AARP Livability Index. The online tool is a first of its kind resource that allows individuals to determine how well their communities are meeting their current and future needs. Anyone can use the tool, including residents, policy makers and the private sector, to measure how their location – down to the neighborhood level – rates across a wide range of metrics that reflect user friendliness, and customize their search based on their own priorities.
