Rate increases for utilities continue to be an issue around Maryland. The latest request involves Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE), who has asked the Public Service Commission for an increase in rates and for a surcharge or "tracker" to make improvements to their infrastructure. AARP is opposed to surcharges and trackers as a means for fixing infrastructure problems.
Now that the federal government has officially shut down, many are in the dark about what is and is not affected. Here are a few of the most pressing questions that AARP members are asking, and the answers you may be looking for:
