AARP members and guests are invited to participate in a telephone town hall meeting with Governor-elect Brad Little. AARP Idaho state director Lupe Wissel will moderate the call and take questions from the audience regarding recent election results, the upcoming 2019 Idaho Legislative session, health care and several other issues important to the 50+ in Idaho.

Volunteers are needed to wrap Christmas gifts for military veterans at the Idaho State Veterans Home on Saturday, November 17th. Volunteers do not need to bring anything other than their enthusiasm. Gifts, wrapping materials, and refreshments will be provided.

Destination Caldwell was recently awarded a 2018 AARP Community Engagement Grant to assist with the implementation of the Articulture program at Indian Creek Plaza. Articulture is a public art collaboration between local artists and community members. Projects are created and facilitated by a local artist while community members are invited to help create and manifest the art together.

Retail prices for many of the most commonly-used brand name drugs by older adults rocketed upward by an average of 8.4 percent in 2017, outstripping the general inflation rate of 2.1 percent. The annual average cost of therapy for just one brand name drug increased to almost $6,800 in 2017.

AARP Idaho announced today that Micki Kawakami of Nampa was selected to receive the 2018 Andrus Award for Community Service, the Association’s most prestigious volunteer award. Each year AARP honors the legacy of AARP founder, Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus, with the AARP Andrus Award for Community Service. This award is a symbol of the power of individuals to make a difference in the lives of others.
